Samo project is ended.

What is Samo?

Samo is an apple grinder and presser like no other! It’s a compact yet super efficient apple juicer for everybody who has apple trees growing in their garden and wish to make their own juice.

Grinding and pressing apples to juice is very time-consuming. The idea of Samo was born out of frustration towards apple grinders and pressers currently on the market.

Why Samo?

Samo is a novel and innovative apple grinder and presser that’s going to change the way apples are juiced. Once you try it, you don’t want to go back to yesterday’s methods!

Grinding apples has been slow and laborious: whether your grinder is hand-cranked or runs with a motor, they often jam and generally don’t work very well. You may even have to chop apples into smaller pieces before your grinder accepts them. Moving the ground apple pulp into a presser is the next chore: you may have to wrap the pulp inside pieces of cloth or mesh to hold it together for pressing. Only then you get to actually press, which again takes a lot of time and finally, you have to extract the dry pulp and prepare the presser for the next batch, and eventually clean everything when you have finished.

grabs it and cuts through it

Samo’s grinder has been designed so that it sucks apples in and doesn’t get stuck which is a common problem. With Samo’s specially designed blades, it is also not needed to push apples in with a stick to feed them: it’s enough that you pour them in the keg, close the lid and start grinding!

Grinding

Grinding the apples is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the whole juicing process - it’s very time-consuming. In the initial stage of Samo’s development we paid very close attention to the existing methods of grinding apples. One of the biggest reasons for difficulties in grinding is insufficient force. Another key factor contributing to the performance of the grinders currently in the market is the design of the grinder. It’s not enough to grind apples just somehow. There’s a significant difference in how much juice you get out of an apple depending on how it is ground. You want to make shreds that yield the apple pulp’s juice out easily when pressed.

Pressing

The presser consists of the presser bottom and the presser top, a keg between them, the pressing disc that presses the apple pulp inside the keg, and three locking bars that keep the presser's modules together during pressing. The juice runs into the juice bowl and into the container of your choice.

A major thing we wanted to improve in apple-pressing is how you have to move the apple pulp into a presser after grinding it. With existing methods, you either have to scoop the pulp from your grinder into a presser, or worse still, make "cakes": wrap small portions of pulp in pieces of cloth or mesh, stack them in the press and then press them. Both methods are time-consuming and messy, because the pulp is moist and sticky. With Samo, the pulp falls directly from the grinder into the presser and the entire stage is skipped!

Samo is the fastest Juicer in the market

Samo's hexagonal shape

Why is Samo hexagonal and not round like other pressers in the market? There are a couple of reasons for this. When we started to develop then unnamed Samo, we pondered between different shapes for the device.

Narrow openings in the corners make a natural way to run the juice out during pressing without having to perforate the walls. It doesn’t hurt either that a hexagon is a very distinguishable shape and helps Samo to stand out from the crowd.

what's in the package

Package | 2 Kegs, Grinder, Feeder, Lid, Presser top, Presser bottom, Presser rod, Pressing disc, 3 Locking bars and Juice bowl.

Materials | All materials are food grade approved. Bamboo, stainless Steel, and POM and ABS plastics.

Size | Weight: 22kg (49 lbs). Keg capacity: 19 litres (5 US gallons) that takes roughly 6-7 kg (13-15 lbs) of apples in one load.

Samo consist of modules that stack upon each other. For grinding and pressing, you use different module combinations. Modules help to minimize the amount of parts and material needed, and make the workflow of making juice smoother and faster than with any other presser.

not just for apples

With Samo grinder and presser you can make juice from other fruits too. Samo’s specially designed grinder can easily handle pears, pineapples, watermelon, honeydew, pomegranate and cucumber. As a matter of fact you can crush and press almost any fruit or vegetable as long as you remove large or hard seeds before grinding.
